My very first wedding was done in the beautiful island of Grenada at the Coyaba Beach Resort which overlooked one of the most scenic beaches on the island. Grenada is an incredibly beautiful island and I still remember the crystal blue beaches, the white sand and the setting sun which adorned the sky with an array of breathtaking colors.
My visit was all to short but it was a lovely one. Within those few days, I managed to tour the island rather quickly and sample several mouthwatering Grenadian dishes. But my favorite was authentic homemade Grenadian chocolate ice-cream which was flavored with the spice the country was known for, nutmeg. In fact, the hotel we stayed at used the nutmeg shells as part of their decor as did much of Grenada in a variety of creative ways.
My only heartbreaking moment was when I saw a native with a money who was tied to him with a string around it to prevent him from returning home to the forest. The man was using the monkey to make money from the tourists which I abhorred and I mourned the lack of anti-cruelty laws not only in Grenada but around the world. But apart from this my stay was an enjoyable one with the wedding I came to do being one of the reasons I enjoyed it.
For many reasons, my first wedding remains one of my favourites. And if you look at the images, you’ll understand why.
